The Scoring System
For senior men gymnasts, the scoring system comprises of two scores, Difficulty and Execution, which are added together to produce the final score.
Difficulty Score
For all apparatus except for Vault, the difficulty score comprises of two elements which are added together.
Skills Credibility
Each skill which the gymnast performs is assigned a value based on its difficulty (see table below). Gymnasts are required to execute 10 skills and their values are totalled. On the Floor Exercise and Horizontal Bar there are also connection values of 0.1 or 0.2 when difficult skills are completed back to back.
| A | 0.1 | E.g. Pommel Horse - Circle |
| B | 0.2 | E.g. Floor Exercise - Front Saulto |
| C | 0.3 | E.g. Floor Exercise - Back Saulto with 2 twists |
| D | 0.4 | E.g. Floor Exercise - Back Saulto with 2 ½ twists |
| E | 0.5 | E.g. Floor Exercise - Front Saulto with 2 ½ twists |
| F | 0.6 | E.g. Horizontal Bar - Double Saulto dismount with 3 twist in a stretch position |
| G | 0.7 | E.g. Horizontal Bar - Stretch Zovacs with on twist |
Element Group Requirements
Each apparatus (except for Vault) has 5 element groups which are worth 0.5 each. For the gymnast to be awarded 0.5 for each element group they must complete at least one skill from that group. These skills are counted from the 10 skills completed. The maximum is there 2.5.
For Vault, each vault has an individual value depending on its difficulty.
Execution Score
The execution score begins with a base score of 10.0 and deductions are made for errors and faults in technique, execution and artistry. The deductions range from 0.1 for a small error to 1.0 for a fall.
