It's show time!
With only one Australian male gymnast able to compete at this year's games, the final selection has come down to two athletes. Myself being one and long time friend Joshua Jefferis being the other. Getting this far has meant competing at last year's World Championships and placing above the cut at this year's Olympic Test Event, not to mention the countless trials and training camps throughout.
Looking forward, it needs to be narrowed down to one gymnast who will be granted the ultimate opportunity to compete at the Olympic Games. Joshua and I will be competing at three competitions to determine who will best represent Australia at the games. These competitions include:
- Pacific Rim Championships - March - Seattle, USA
- Kyle Shewfelt Invitational - March - Calgary, CAN
- Australian Championships - May - Sydney, AUS
Based on results from these competitions and taking into account major competitions from last year, the selection committee has the task of selecting one of us to compete at the games and the other to be named reserve. This selection will be finalised in late May, early June.
From there both gymnast will attend a training camp three hours outside of London with the selected athlete eventually moving into the games village and the reserve staying in England until the first day of competition, in case of injury to the selected gymnast.
To track my progress like my FaceBook page as I will be doing my best to keep this updated throughout my travels.
Olympic Apparatus Draw
The draw for the 2012 Olympic Games has been concluded at FIG Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. Australia's only male gymnast will be competing in sub-division two starting on Parallel Bars on the 28th July. This is one of my favourite apparatus to start on and hopefully that will be the case come July.
